There were quite a few challenges that we faced while creating the brand identity and packaging for Cuthberts. With such a saturated market, we knew we had to create something that was unique in this space. We also had to balance paying homage to the owner’s Scottish heritage without making it look dated and common. Furthermore, the packaging had to work seamlessly in different environments and appeal to a diverse target market. We had to work very closely with the client to achieve these goals.

After much thought and iteration, we managed to come up with some great solutions for the project. Firstly, we selected a beautiful Old English style typeface to be the word mark for the logo. This typeface gives the brand a timeless and authentic feel. We then added a gold seal that would also sit on both the label and the neck of the bottle as an indicator of quality. We continued with the gold theme and used it as an accent colour on all the labels. 

The design of the labels themselves was very clean, uncluttered and minimal to give the brand an overall premium feel. We also took the liberty to create some advertising concepts for both print and digital. These concepts were also very minimal, with plenty of white space and large hero images of the product. The copy in these concepts also centered around the purity and taste of the beer.
